Day 1 - Klamath Falls to Fort Klamath

Susan of Susan and Brian authored the first extended blog with their trip across the Northern Tier from in Anacortes to Virginia. Susan set the standard, sorry, I want thinking back far enough.

KOA in Klamath Falls had clean bathrooms. That's the best thing I can say about KOA.

Brian, my riding song today was Creedence Clearwater Revival  doing something like "da da da da da dada, I see the light". You know. Hey I just played the guitar, I didn't sing. But then I saw a forest service road number and got stuck on " in the year 2525".

Here's the route I took today skirting the west side of Upper Klamath Lake, and passing the state and national wildlife refuges.

So in all that irrigation, where is the refuge? I took this photo before the road turn due north.  ( If you zoom in you can see the white pipes)

As I got to Pelican Cove I saw, amazingly enough, a lot of pelicans! More than I have ever seen in the wild, fifteen or twenty. Unfortunately the picture was lost.

I started and finished biking at about the same elevation, so net game for the day was zero but there were a lot of up and downs. It seemed like I had tailwind a lot of the day which was great.

But I keep looking for where Crater Lake should be. I can't tell from the map what the mountain should look like in profile. Here's what I see:

Again, hard to tell from the photo, but I think except for the near low peak, that's all part of the rim. And did the mountain before the crater have a name? I'll try to find out.

So I'm alone in the tent camping section of Jo's Motel. Just luxurious to hog the whole picnic table:

Tomorrow's a short 14 or so miles, with a gain of only 1900'. So no big deal?? I wish I had less weight...

The cows and coyotes are telling me it's bedtime! Later!
